About Fulton Georgia
Fulton County is located in the northeast section of Georgia. According to the 2010 census, it was the most populated county in all of Georgia with 920,581 residents. However, that number may be incorrect as the population in 2009 was 1,020,014. The county seat of Fulton County is Atlanta, which has close to 500,000 residents and nearly 5.5 million residents in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Atalanta has been Fulton's county seat since 1868. Additionally, Fulton is part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1853, Fulton County formed from the western half of DeKalb County. The county was named in honor of Hamilton Fulton, who was a surveyor for the Western and Atlantic Railroad. The city of Roswell within Fulton County has the most pre-Civil War historical building than any other town in Georgia.
